The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
