Fall Classic Final Game Draws Over 50 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extra-inning contest where the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a total 51 million watchers across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic finale since the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game secured over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the previous finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed fourth, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game drew 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game started at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12M. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a single network in Japan.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-game series averaged 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete American average reached 16.1 million. The overall World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million watchers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and Fox’s best playoff performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
